Joyland park bought Greezed Lightnin from SFAW. But it's still not operating.

Bought in 2006, but not yet installed and running. Anyone know or are familiar with why this coaster isn't operating there yet?

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

I seem to recall the park had problems with soil tests...does that ring a bell anyone?...anyone?

Unfortunately the ride had to be purchased hastily, because Six Flags was hell bent on getting that land cleared right away. When the Joyland Park owners started doing tests for the foundation they ran into ground water. In order to properly secure the footings they would need to dig much, much deeper than they originally anticipated, and the cost was significantly higher than they had allocated for construction. They looked at other alternatives, such as other locations in the park but either ran into other water table problems, or underground utilities or pipelines. They also had engineers work out some type of floating footings, but the Stengel firm would not approve the alternate arrangement, and without their approval, insurance would have been unobtainable. The last I heard was that they were going to give up and put the coaster up for sale.

The sad thing is, had they been given more time to check things out before making a purchase, they probably would have ended up with Viper (the Schwarzkopf Looping Star). Although that was a permanent park version, that model had originally been designed as a portable coaster and didn't need much in the way of footings.

Thanks Jeffrey. I knew it had something to do with the ground the park had planned on constructing the ride on.

This is so sad. There were pics posted somewhere from when Joyland got the ride, and they were giving the train some serious TLC in their shop. They seem kinda like Holidayworld, very much into every aspect of what they do.

Too bad about Viper too - it was hard to believe that SF scrapped it so fast. Lets hope something comes through for Joyland and they find a little spot of hard ground.

(edit) I gotta add my extra 2 cents - these old Intamin/Anton Shuttles are consistently, year after year, better than any newer impulse shuttle thing a ma-jig. The lap bar only 'thing' doesn't hurt, either.

Speaking of old Greezed Lightning shuttles - what ever happened to Tidal Wave at CGA. I know it was sold/moved to storage in the parking lot of SFDK for a while, but then what? Was it sold for scrap?

It was used as spare parts for SFKK's Greezed Lightnin'.
