The ride has broken two people's necks, one persons back, injured 28 people in one day when the track split, killed a man after it punched him in the torso, and then shook this lady so hard that her brain was possibly bleeding.

Should they reopen it or demolish it?

If they foolishly decided to keep it open, each new injury case against the ride and the park can only get stronger and stronger. The next indecent could possibly be even worse.

Kings Island should get rid of the ride and build a thrill ride that more people can enjoy.

Is maintaining the height record really that important to Kings Island? After the removal of the loop this coaster lost its real appeal to me, as then it was just a large twister - nothing special or out of the ordinary. And with limited exceptions my experience has been that when you go over 100 feet with wood you have trouble.

If they were to do anything to keep the height record for wooden coasters, I fell that they should speak with Intamin about either a complete retrack, or replacement with one of their prefabricated designs. From what I head El Toro is still holding up quite well. Then if the loop is still even a relevant gimmick, I am quite sure it would be much easier to execute with that track system.

News Flash: New for 2010 at Cedar Point, Son of beast.....New for 2010 at Kings Island The Mean streak. Doesnt that solve the problem?
I believe son of beast was doomed from the get go, from the construction problems and loosing part during a partial collapse, with the collaspe i think Jeff Foxworthy would say it pretty good, "Here's your sign". Fix or tear it down, but if you fix it, fix it right.

Of course they didn't find anything "irregular." It's not irregular for people to get hurt on that thing.

I'm really surprised by how many non-enthusiasts are commenting on the newspaper story defending the ride. It appears the misconception that a wooden coaster is supposed to beat the crap out of you is strong with these people.

^As I've been saying to enthusiast non-believers...as someone who up until a few months ago went to KI a dozen times each month for over the past 2 seasons, the GP (thinks) they love SOB and up until it closed again many in line would still actually think it had the loop.

And when the ride is running "properly" and injuring people, it only becomes a matter of time until the money defending lawsuits (and paying the valid claims) overwhelms any benefit the park gets from having the ride in the first place. I'm happy to have gotten the laps I did...

^Dave, not so sure it's a good idea to admit knowing the schtick of each of the blue-collar comedy guys...

I live in the hill of WV where I have to converse with people look like they came out of that Wrong Turn movie. Half of anything they say has to do with:

1. "Here's your sign!"
2. "You might be a redneck if..."

And my all-time least favorite...
3. (in a grunty, high-pitched voice) "GIT-ER-DONE!"

It's probably the most annoying thing about living here, other than the country music.

What's scary is that West Virginia wasn't even part of the Confederacy -- or at least, it wasn't for very long. The counties that became that state actually voted to secede from the rest of Virginia and stay in the Union. I'm not sure why folks in WV have so many Stars and Bars in their pickup trucks -- it's somebody else's heritage they're celebrating, not their own.

I've noticed that, Smith.

I lived in the center of PA, phoenixfan, and it was bad, but not half as bad as it is here.

About confederate flags, they are plastered anywhere they can be in my county. They are mostly seen as a scocially acceptable way to be predijist against African Americans.

A few weeks ago, I went to a fair in the next county over, and there was a cart that sold flags, jewelry, lighters, ect. They had two different styles of each item, symmetrically placed between the two halves of the booth. One style was, you guessed it, the confederate flag, and the style on the other side was rainbows and gay pride themed merch.

There were people gathered all around the confederate stuff. Only my female friend and I were brave enough to take a "gander" at "the queer stuff over there", as one toothless, barefoot, shirtless, greasy, chainsmoking, teenage boy put it. lol

At least here I am considered a genius. HAHA!

I remember right when this thing opened that it was going to draw many people to it. But i would be a little nervous going on this ride thinking that if it didnt have enough speed to make it through the loop that it could go off the tracks. It just makes me cringe thinking that some people actually had to experience that

With all the bad press that this ride has received, I wonder if they have finally decided to throw in the towel. Frankly, I would be surprised if it ever re-opens.
