Is this boy 13 or 15? Here in WV, if he'd just wait until the boy was 16, it wouldn't be illegal (I'm not saying that that is moral or not.)

This man was molesting the kid for 5 years, according to the story. The boy had been living with the man in WA. The boy would have been molested whether he was at a water park or another vacation spot, so being at the park is not the issue in this particular case, even though the writer tries to make it so.

It is appalling that so many incidents have occurred at Orlando water parks, but this incident is different in that they were at the park together. Sounds to me like the molester wanted to get caught.

People need to get help if they find that they want to touch little kids. That or wait until the kid is of legal age...lol

I don't believe I want to live in a society that strings anyone up by their balls -- perv or not.

That being said, this man has done some very bad things to kids and if found guilty needs to be put in prison for a long time -- as punishment, certainly, but more importantly to keep him away from any other children he might traumatize or endanger in the future.

I didn't see any humor in my post. Pedos should wait until a kid is of legal age before coming on to them. That's not a joke.

I always hate it when the newscaster says that a 15 year old "child" was "molested". It puts the image of a 6-year-old being brutally harmed. Although inappropriate, it sometimes isn't that harmful to the teenager. Notice that I said "sometimes", and that's why it is illegal.

I, myself, was an "abused" 14 - 17-year-old teenager. It didn't hurt me at all, and that's why to this day I will protect the identity of my "attacker". We are even still friends. Again, the age-of-consent laws are necessary because some teens aren't going to view what happened to them as a positive thing, and there is no way for someone sexually attracted to a teenager to understand if it will or will not cause harm.

And don't think that I am in any way condoning doing adult things to pre-adolescent children. That is the wrongest of wrongs. There is a difference between children and teenagers.

That's where my "humor" comes in. I agree that this guy should go to prison, because the kid was between 10 and 15 when he was being molested. If a person had sex with a 16-year-old, the laws in my State, and many other States, say otherwise. I was laughing at the fact that the guy got caught less than 12 months from the kid's 16th Birthday, which is ironic for the molester, and probably a Godsend for the kid, who had been abuse all those years.

People treat serious subjects differently. I have to laugh at what's ironic in the story, because of the distubing nature. I also laugh at funerals.

After that long explanition, let me say that I am sorry if I offended you in any way.

Maybe it's time for waterparks to start doing what many city waterparks do....You must show an ID if you are over 18, and they run a backround check on you before allowing you in.
It makes for a longer line, but it's worth it for safety's sake!
When I goto Cuyahoga Falls Water Works or Natatorium, you must show a state ID before you are allowed in.
This will at least catch most previous child and/or sex offenders, and hopefully deter others of suspicious nature.

LK, all you have done is demonstrate you have no understanding of the concept of molestation, child or otherwise. This isn't about consensual-but-underage sex. There is no such thing as harmless molestation.

And as for your sense of humor, this is the second time you have offered it in this kind of context and the second time you have explained it off as the quirky way you deal with unpleasant topics. The problem is this isn't a situation where your response is required.

So, please, have some respect for the other members of this community, who come from all manner of experience and background, and stay silent when the topic of sexual misconduct comes up if all you have to offer is a "joke" or "quip". I, for one, would appreciate that.

To set the story straight, the man is apparently traveling with the 15-year old, and is accused of molesting a different 13-year old. I'm not sure why they feel it's necessary to mention the man's employer in the story (especially since it's a highlighted link to their website).

Midwave, I'm not sure I agree with your tactics. First, you're going with the premise that everyone is considered guilty until proven innocent. Those silly little things called civil liberties sometimes get in the way. Secondly, since this article doesn't mention any of the accused having previous offenses, or if charges were never filed in previous cases, an ID check would have revealed nothing. The offenses still would have occurred.

Getting away from the episode that was the main subject of this story, and getting to the part that really matters...

I was thinking, if molestations are in fact a problem at water parks, what is a good way to prevent them from occurring? I'm assuming that security is already aware of and looking to prevent these kinds of things. As anti-surveillance as I am (paranoid, I'll admit), maybe more cameras at water parks and more staff to watch the monitors would help.

Also, especially at a water park, people should keep an eagle eye on the kids that are in their care.

I find the act despicable, but as the professionals in the article mention, it's usually the result of some kind of mental illness. As such, my desire is not for any "ball stringing" (seriously dude, what century do you live in?), but rather a way to treat it and punish it. Not suggesting there shouldn't be consequences, but this kind of sick weirdness is not in the same category as date rape and other crimes of that nature.

I am understanding both sides here on punishment.

If someone did something to my children, I would want more than help their mental problem. I would want SERIOUS PUNISHMENT. It would hurt not just my child, but myself mentally. LEAVE kids alone! As a parent, I would want something done that will deter this from happing again. Make sure public knows to. I want other molesters to know they might get seriously hurt if they do this to someone. A deterant. Make them think about what could happen if they do it.

I also know someone who was falsely accused at a town fair and it has hurt his life and lively hood since it has happened. But not to where an actual molester would care about the consequence. The person I knew owned a business. It basically ruined a successful business because the news reported something before facts came out to prove he didn't do it. The business never recovered and competition exploits it whenever possible, even though it was false. The kid later addmitted it after getting caught lying. Most molesters don't own businesses though, so consequences to them are still not as bad as what they want if they do not get caught.

My entire issue with the concept of treatment/rehabilitation in these cases is that it only comes as a result of getting caught, not of the realization that one has a problem and wants and needs help with it. I don't think that provides the right condition for mental assistance.

I said maybe this catches most previous offenders, and if anyone including Jeff wants to know how the program works, they can call Cuyahoga Falls Parks & Recreation Dept. at 330-971-8225.
I don't know exactly what they do, except that it includes any state ID to be checked, but as usual, too many people on this chat site attacks everyone and assumes more than what is typed, or doesn't ask non-attacking questions if they are confused about someone's response.
We live in an age of violence at Church festivals, molestation and rape at amusement and water parks, and drug dealings in every community in the USA....I would LOVE to see an adult community such as Coasterbuzz come up with a workable solution to ANY of these problems! Any solid ideas, friends?

Being the father of a three year old child makes my thoughts on the matter amplified.

Damn straight if some perv touched my daughter, (mental problem or not)I would want the bastard to suffer. Why would it matter what century we are in? Just because we are in the year 2009, does not make it ok. If he did it...he did it. It seems that the laws today favor the guilty and not the victims.
