Holiday World 7/4/09

Wasn’t the best of weather days at all, but the opportunity to visit again probably was not going to happen for awhile. Overall, it is a nice park. Pilgrim’s plunge was running but it just wasn’t a kind of day for that. My impressions of the coasters:

The Raven- Nice layout and it is a fun ride. However, it is a little short. I guess it was the first major upgrade for the park. I was expecting a little more for a ride that was really highly regarded among the enthusiasts.

The Legend- I was pretty impressed by this one. I have always been more interested in drops when it comes to coasters, but I really enjoyed the laterals.

The Voyage- Yeah this one is the beast of the wooden coasters. A couple great drops followed by an absolute crazy trip back. I think they have reached the comfortable limit when it comes to intensity of a wooden coaster. I wonder for people that have had ERT on this one about how many times they were able to ride it.

Nice park with a nice collection of wooden coasters. I can see why it ishighly regarded.

I could ride Voyage all day long. I don't find it uncomfortable at all.

The Voyage is my #1 coaster by leaps and bounds, but we had to stop around 3 consecutive rides we had to stop and take a break. The ride isn't painful by any means but it's so intense that many enthusiasts at Holiwood Nights were out in front of the ride entrance catching their breath, which was quite a sight!

Having said that, I was riding with a gentleman that same evening (HW Nights) who broke 100 rides on it for the day. How he did it remains one of life's greatest mysteries to me :-)

I don't like to sit in cars 2-4 they seem to provide a rougher ride, maybe its all in my head, it just seems I can do more rides when I avoid those seats. The back is really the only way to go in my opinion, plus when you sit in the back seat of each car you get just a little bit more leg room since you can put your feet under the seat in front of you.

I wonder for people that have had ERT on this one about how many times they were able to ride it.

I rode Voyage non-stop for both nights of ERT at this year's HoliWood Nights. Three hours the first night, two the second...and I could have easily done twice that! But then I have a high tolerance for rides with intense g-forces. I know lots of people who can only take a ride or two before needing a break.

Yeah the intensity did catch me a bit off guard. Great ride. Adding a bit of rain to the experience gives you another thing to focus on. I wasn't trying to marathon to find out the hard way what I could do. I honestly can't remember the trip I thought was a little rougher than the others if it was in the front or a back of a car.
