More than a month after opening for the 2009 season, Ghost Town in the Sky's Cliffhanger coaster has been deemed ready to roll with the approval of inspectors. The Cliffhanger has had several opening delays since the park's new ownership group re-opened the park in May of 2007. Originally known as the Red Devil, the design of the Cliffhanger is much improved since it was originally built more than 20 years ago.

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

It's the only coaster that starts downhill? Apparently that guy hasn't been to Pennsylvania.

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

I was a-head-scratchin' at first when I read that...and then I noticed the entire qualifying statement. Cliffhanger is "the only coaster that starts downhill and located literally on the side of Buck Mountain with top speeds of 56 miles per hour." That, my friends, is a true claim.

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

Well, that statement wasn't the best ever to describe the coaster's uniqueness. How 'bout the break run and station are at the highest point on the coaster and the first drop is literally right out of the station? Does that make it unique (I've not been to many of the PA parks but assuming the reference is to Kennywood's Jack Rabbit).

I had the chance to ride this back breaker in 1995, I don't see that they re-profiled the loop so it's probably the same. I'll have to give it a go this summer and post back. Coincidentally the same loop design was used on the other OD Hopkins looping coasters that I've found elsewhere on the web. Note the loop's circumference is quite smaller in the exit than it is around the top!

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

This is good news as I will be going to dollywood in a few weeks. I wiill have to stop by to get a ride.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

I was just looking at pics of this coaster at RCDB and came across this one of the train and seating. I like the openness of the seats and just a lap bar especially since this thing has a loop. No headbanging.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Thunderbolt at Kennywood drops right out the station. Jack Rabbit has a small slope out of the station around a bend and then a drop.

How could anybody forget...Adventure Express at Kings Island drops right out of the station too!

Kennywood's Thunderbolt drops right out of the station. No turns leading to the 1st drop, it just drops.

Good point, Coasterphan. Or you could say that this way...

Yes, those all drop after leaving the station. But none of those are located literally on the side of Buck Mountain with top speeds of 56 miles per hour.

EGAD!

I looked through this whole thread, and did not see that at all.

Time to move up to a stronger lens.

Lol, Coasterphan. No problem.

But for the record, we do not use "EGAD!" nearly enough in everyday conversation. I love that!

Just to be an A-Hole and add fuel to the fire I have to point out that every Arrow shuttle loop drops right out of the station. Fortunately of the few that are left, none are on the side of Buck mountain.

Son OF Beast also drops right out of the station...

Love that POV video. The girl filming it REALLY likes the coaster...A LOT! lol

It really doesn't look all that exciting, really.

They're not getting it Moosh. My God, you could say Cedar Creek Mine Ride drops right out of the station with it's 2 foot drop. It, however, is not on the side of Buck Mountain.

Re: Ghost Town In The Sky finally opens its coaster

Talk about an oddly designed coaster, it could of used the hillside to its advantage more.
