Translation: Its been a slow year for PETA and we need attention. Their HQ is unfortunately a few miles away from me and often see their "efforts" first hand.

Whistle Blower = Someone with Grudge.

Wouldn't be the first time a PETA person inserted themselves into an organization to play policeman.

Im fairly confident that DC and Sea World abide by the highest standards for care of their animals especially knowing how much time and money Virginia Busch puts into the Wildlife Effort with respect to conservation, research and animal rescue. No doubt everyone in the BEC organization follows suit.

What ever they did was more than likely in the best interest of the animal.

I like how the article indicates, "The Dolphin was 29." Uh, how about putting that into some context for the reader, eh? What's the life expectancy of a dolphin?

I don't have any issue with PETA calling for an investigation. They have a right to know what happened. And if Discovery Cove did provide the utmost care for the dolphin and act in its best interest (as I agree, they likely did), then all the better that the investigation demonstrates that.

They have a right to know?? Are they some mystery govt organization that is given the power to know all that happen behind closed doors?

Umm no..

Private non profit organization that has a self appointed duty. In that I see no "right" to do anything but maybe inquire. Just like you and I can ask.

I think thats the boundry that confuses most.. PETA has no right to get any information that the opposing organization wishes to give or not give. Their perceived "right" comes from the fear that they will camp out on their doorstep until they get what they want..

I would consider it more a privilege that they get any information.

Ok, ok, just relax there. They have a right to ask. Which is all they've done at this point. In fact they didn't even ask DC directly. They are asking the US Dept of Ag to do the investigation. And I would assume the US Dept of Ag will only do so if they also see a potential reason for it.

Where has PETA made a misstep here? I really don't see the issue.

Having their HQ here. You should see how they are anytime an accredited zoo or musuem (AZA), has an issue.. Since its an easy drive for them they come in droves.

Dont get me wrong now.. They have some validity to their premise.. Unfortunately its the radicals in the same group that ruin a good thing.

No where in my post did I comment about PETA misstepping (not sure thats a word?) . My response was to your comment that they have a "right" to know. To which I disagreed about their right.

No doubt. But in this case, it would appear they are acting in a reasonable way and taking the appropriate steps to move forward. It's hard to fault them for that.

For me the problem is giving them credit in the first place.

Just because you create an organization (with questionable motives and practices - but that's an entirely different thing) and give yourself a nice acronym name doesn't give you the right to butt your nose into everyone's business everytime something non-human dies.

I don't believe they have a right to know what happened any more than any of us and I can't imagine in a million years going to Discovery Cove and asking questions or demanding an investigation.

In addition to the "not really any of our business" angle, I can't believe there a group whose purpose is to give a crap when a dolphin dies at a theme park - epspecially when the park is somewhere like SeaWorld that has an outstanding reputation for treating animals very well.

PETA is a joke.

I don't know what giving them full credit means. They are an organization that specializes in advocating for the ethical treatment of animals. You even indicated that premise is a valid one. The only exception lies with the radicals who go too far in carrying out the mission.

But in this case, they are doing things by the book. Yet you indicate they are just calling for attention. You indicate the whistle blowing tip they received is just someone with a grudge. I assume you have no direct information about that. And then you indicate that you believe them to be inserting themselves into the organization to play policeman.

There's no evidence of any of that. I am sure you have seen the worst that PETA can represent. But none of that is evident in this situation.

And I really have no idea how relaxed you may be. I was just responding to the double punctuation which is usually a sign of excitement followed by the sarcastic "mystery govt organization" crack.

I concede they don't have a right to know. I do think they have a right to ask the appropriate agencies to take a look when something doesn't seem right.

And no one, that I know of anyway, has gone to DC to ask questions or demand an investigation. It seems PETA, based on information they indicate receiving, sent a request to the appropriate govt agency to investigate.

I dont give them full credit because this situation isnt over.

The grudge remark was in jest.. Im sorry I ommitted happy faces to define that. Inline with my "Translation". Obviously I dont know for sure.. But my post wasnt in definite, other than the fact they have been known to infiltrate organizations before for their agenda..

Is it the case now? Who knows.. But if they can speculate (which they are, otherwise it wouldnt be in the news), why cant I?

I went down during my lunch hour for a little fun. I was asking them question like:

How did so get your legs so smooth, since all shaving products I have heard of perform animal testing? I did not get an answer. It was actually much fun and I hope they come back this year. I plan on taking my camera and wear Larry Flynt shirt.

Fact of the matter is my original post was about you saying PETA had a right to know.. To which I exposed this flaw in your theory. (And wasnt the only one apparently).

You then reached for much smaller parts of my original post to claim whatever point you are making beyond the original point I stated.

My error was wording my original point with "a right to know". I followed agreeing with you that they do not have that right.

I don't think PETA is doing anything wrong. It sounded to me like you think they are (and don't bother... I heard you say you were just jesting.)

I don't think they are out of line at all in this situation. From what I understand the average life expectancy for a dolphin is 40-50 years outside of captivity and much less than that when captive. One would think that a dolphin would live longer in captivity due to veterinary care but they don't.

PETA may be radical at times, but if organizations like this didn't exist living conditions for a lot of captive wild animals would be pretty poor.
