It is correct, there is no way to "dig" a tunnel in NL like you can in RCT. Like Dan said, you have to create a 3D object with another modeling program, then import that into your NoLimits track. And it's an illusion you're creating with the 3D object as you still can't actually create a completely "underground" tunnel. Essentially what you do is sculpt a trench in your coaster's terrain, then you layer a mesh over the top that has the same texture as the terrain, leaving a hole at both ends of the trench to enter and exit the tunnel. The mesh covering is what you create with the 3D program, but you can also include walls and a floor (and even a ceiling if you wanted) and texture them to look like rock walls or concrete walls or whatever you want.
I have never made one myself (haven't felt the need for that much detail in my creations), but between studying tunnels other people have made and my CAD background, that is what I have determined.
