SkyZip at Dollywood!!!

Hey everyone you may already know, I've been getting news about dollywood and there new SkyZip.

From what heard if you want a thrilling zipline adventure your going to have to pay an extra $40.00 plus tax. I'm sure it's worth it.

Any Thoughts?

So anyways, I've been very excited about SkyZip. My Mother and I watched a recent news station video that was somewhere online and Mom said, "I want to do that!"

We are now making plans to visit!

Hey It's me again,

The SkyZip is a multi station zip-line adventure! It can up to an hour long ride to at least 15 mins. Heres the cool part about it, YOU pick your adventure, How cool is that?? Plus it's so unique that its the first zip line attraction of its king in an theme park WOW!!!

any thoughts???

This does sound pretty fun. I've always wanted to try those zip-line adventures. And this sounds like something more people would be willing to pay extra for, as it's not a 5-minute, one trick pony (see: skyflyers aka ripcords, slingshots, etc.).

I have to make a correction!!!

The zip-line adventures take up to an hour to a half hour!!! WOW!!

I'm sorry if I mis lead you all, But I did see that on their web site that if you stay tuned they will have more advenures LATER THIS YEAR!!!!

WOW, now that makes me wonder what else DollyWood has up there sleves.

Jeff, I think your websight is broken!!! Or perhaps their's something wrong with the interwebs. Everytime I type WOW, it keeps capitalizing the letters. And for some reason, I have to have at leased 3 exclamation marks at the end of my EXCITING POINTS!!!

CLICK HERE to go straight to the page with links to all the info. Your $40 gets you trips on 5 different zip lines ranging from 100 feet to 1000 feet, not to mention several hikes to get from one to the next. It can take anywhere from 1hr to 1 1/2 hrs to complete the whole deal.

I did the zipline in Ketchikan, Alaska. It was billed as zipping "high over the forest, with views of the wildlife & forest below." It was 7 sections total ranging from 50 feet to 1,000 feet long and the highest was about 200 feet from the ground.

Guess what we saw while zipping? The end of the line! You had to concentrate on keeping yourself facing forward (using one hand positioned on top of the wheel mechanism) and one hand in the "ready" position to begin braking (that hand, thankfully, was gloved). And you were constantly worried about putting the gloved braking hand in front of the wheel mechanism and having it mangled or cut off!

There was no time to look around and, because of your position, you couldn't look below you. No sense of height. No sense of speed. No wildlife.

Was it fun? Yeah, although the most fun was watching the rest of my family -- including my 70-yr-old parents! -- zip across. Would I pay $40 to do it over Dollywood? No.

Love the idea of a premium experience.

This one just holds little interest to me personally. I'm with you, Moosh, I don't see me or anyone in my family spending the $40 on this.

For the record, we're talking $160+tax for a family of four. Good for you, Dollywood. We haven't seen a single price complaint yet in this thread.

I'm glad I had the experience as I'd always wanted to do one. If someone (like Tina) feels the same I say, "Go for it." Just don't think you'll be zipping over Dollywood and enjoying vast views of the park. When the guides warn participants to stay level, stay facing forward and watch for their signal to brake one is much too concentrated on doing just that to look around.

'moosh: from the video clip, it *looks like* the braking is done automagically in the wheel setup, rather than by hand. My guess: they match the tension in the wheels to the weight of the zipliner.

They just installed one at the Wild Animal Park here in San Diego. I might look into it at my wife's company picnic this year if it isn't too expensive (and if the length of the zip line is decent).

To me, this is an attraction just begging to be turned into a proper amusement ride.

See, in my opinion, any time you have a "ride" that requires outfitting each patron with special clothing and/or equipment, that requires individually securing each rider to the apparatus, or that requires giving the rider any special training (or for that matter requires or seems to require the signature of a liability waiver) you have an attraction that does not work as an "amusement ride".

I think it's a great idea, and for a low capacity, labor intensive attraction, the price seems to be about right. But how great would it be if the whole ziplining concept could be converted into something that was a lot more user-friendly.......
