...that's kind of what I was thinking also. I know coasters are engineered to flex and bend, but that looks like a lot.

I especially enjoy the music bed for the water brake section. It caused my wife to come into the room and wonder what exactly I was downloading

I believe it's legitimate music from a 70's adult movie. Seemed like an appropriate choice for coaster pr0n. Everyone kind of chuckled about it, Jeff was cool enough to actually use it.

what kind of camera was used to shoot that? I'm not used to seeing 720p, I figured you would have 1080i?

The camera is a Panasonic HVX200, about three years old.

If you watch sports in HD, you're used to seeing 720p. Most sports are shot at 720p at 60 frames per second. Contrary to popular belief, 720p/60 does not produce less data than 1080i/30 unless you're looking at still pictures.

I could shoot true 1080p/30 (which no one broadcasts), but why? I'm transmitting over the Internet. There's nothing to gain there.

I didn't realize you had such a professional set-up...We use Sony HDV's here at Ball State for the amateur projects we do and of course the ****ty SD pd-150's as well. Were still mini-dv tape based unfortunately...

1080p/30 would take up a lot of space and be a waste on the internet anyway, but I just wondered if you had the capability.

I'm a Telecommunications major here and that's why it interested me so much. Did you use Final Cut Pro to edit by any chance?

Yep, I use Final Cut. I used Avid for a long time in the Windows world, and now that they're finally going dongle-free, I may look into them again. Final Cut should make more sense in terms of its UI, but I always remember Avid making more sense to me. I guess I've never really used it enough. Unfortunately, the app that ingests P2 media the best is Premier Pro, oddly enough. No file wrapping or transcoding.

At the 720 you can easily count the individual spikes in Gonch's hair. I don't think any higher res is necessary (or wanted, in that case).

I just started using final cut last summer before I went to Ball State because they are a big Apple campus especially in the tcom department, and I love it! I used premiere pro before that and I think they are very similar.

Avid is really good for news programs and stuff though but it never really made sense to me for film.

I dunno, I guess it's too each its own.

What kind of rig are you running Jeff? A mac pro? Macbook pro? Hopefully one of those two for the sake of rendering.

Both. My desktop is a first gen Mac Pro about two and a half years old (and not likely something I'll outgrow for a very long time) and my laptop is one of the newer 17" MacBook Pro's. Yes, the battery really does last eight hours.

Apparently Avid still dominates Hollywood, and they have significant share in TV news as well. Given the assault on tape in the consumer world, and declining support for it in iMovie, you'd think their memory-based media management in Final Cut would be better. Then again, media management has always been the thing that it didn't do as well as the competition.

Avid does still dominate big name studios in Hollywood, but Final Cut is taking over the Indy film industry which is the future of film anyway. Your gonna have the few hollywood studios who make big multi-million dollar blockbusters than mostly just cheap Indy Film studios who make the good motion picture without all of the Hollywood influence and flare.

Anyway, yes Final Cut Pro has horrid media management but I haven't really used it to make a big movie yet. I'm still just a freshman so I'm sure that nightmare is something I'll experience later. I'm almost level one certified though for Apple. I thought that Apple was going to roll out FCS 3 at the National broadcasters conference sometime this Spring?

We still have the Powermac G5's in our editing labs here at BSU but I think they are replacing those pretty soon. They work pretty well, but I'm really hoping they get new Mac Pro's this summer. My own laptop is the 17-inch from June with the older battery, but it's still a laptop I can have faith in throughout college. I love it.

I don't think Apple even had a booth at NAB this year.

And I think you mean indie film... Indy films have Harrison Ford.

Yes...wow...I didn't even notice that.

Oh well, hopefully they update it soon because FCS 2 has a lot of issues with color and some issues with Motion that really need to get fixed...
