Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

Ok, if this has already been mentioned I apologize, I didn't see it so I thought I'd post it. I'm planning on a Kennywood trip over Memorial Day and went to the site just to check out the info on Ghostwood when to my surprise ABOVE the Ghostwood description was:

THE BAYERN KURVE MAKES ITS RETURN!

No other info, see it here.

I haven't been on one in a good 25 years so it should be fun!

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

It's not new news, but certainly welcome news, as these rides dwindle away. Kennywood's Kurve was one of the best ever, very fast, and we always rode it Hopefully it will be the same. Didn't I read somewhere that Wipeout is going away? To Conneticut maybe?

And in light of the recent article regarding corporate sponsorships at Kennywood, maybe they can snag Burger King for the Kurve. Then they could call it the BK BK.

The entire ride, much to the pride of the maintenance department has been 100% rebuilt. Its a Kennywood classic.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

It's my favorite flat ride at the park! I would always make it my traditional last ride!

I love the horn.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

The last time I was on one of these was at SFGAm when they used to have the Yukon Yahoo.

Does Californias Great America still have their Bayern Kurve? It last went by the name of Berserker.

I do miss this ride and wonder if it could be considered a coaster.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

I heard the Wipeout from Kennywood will replace the Musik Express at Lake Compounce. This is an interesting move, as SFNE is bringing back their Wipeout too! The Joker's Wild, which used to be indoor, will replace Nightwing (good riddance...).

Chi - AFAIK, CGA's is still there (MM removed theirs due to an overabundance of flatrides). I do love the BKs, but the Fiddler's Flings are IMO the most powerful Schwarzkopf flats. Really really happy to see KW's come back online.

Does Fun Spot still have their BK?

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

It isn't listed on their website, Gonch.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

^Gonch, it wasn't running when we were there in '06. I noticed the date on your picture is '07. Was it running when you visited? I don't see it mentioned on their website.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

Come to think of it, no it wasn't running. That was August 2007.

Well... they have it. It's still in pieces and has been for a number of years.

Man, I forgot about how impressively fast that thing went. That's the only one I've ever been on, or seen in operation for that matter, but I hope they continue to do their best to preserve it for a long time. It's an outstanding ride.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

I encountered one at a fair in Brussels where the operator was able to manipulate each car individually. On each cycle he would pick one unsuspecting and unlucky pair of riders and keep their car in the upright position, which meant major (and painful) lateral forces on the lowest part of the curve even when the ride wasn't at full speed.

Anyone wanna take a guess as to how I know the laterals were both major and painful? lol.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

That's kind of a bummer that Kennywoods doesn't have the tunnel on the back half of the track to go through.

It added to the excitement to Yukon Yahoo at SFGAm.

Re: Bayern Kurve Back at Kennywood

This ride not only was pure joy in terms of speed and fun...it was comfortable with padded seats and lots of leg room.

I was never on Kennywood's, but Great Adv. had one that was not too crowded.

Also, there was a different ride in Wildwood that had a similar feel to it, though it ran in sort of a "figure 8" pattern. Ididn't go on it for some reason, but wanted to. When I went back to Wildwood a year later it was gone and I think Canyon Trip was in its place.

I rode it when it was brand new back in the late 1960's, one of the late Paddy Conklin's concessions. It never had the tunnel, as far as I remember. Lots and lots of flash though, and that horn

I always liked the one at Kings Island. It fit in so nicely with the Oktoberfest theming.
