WOW...I had originally planned on going there for Christmas vacation, but (I guess) luckily, the Godkids/nieces/nephews wanted Christmas gifts from me after going to indoor waterparks for the last 4 years.

I hope they re-open sometime....they never got a chance to properly open yet.

Yeah and it was a crappy Holiday Inn when I stayed there.

This was very fast. It just opened last Easter!

I feel sorry for Lexi Robinson. First she gets let go from her PR position at Geauga Lake, and then after becoming marketing manager at Maui Sands, they file for bankrupcy. She was supposed to be at the ACE Holiday party this coming Saturday. I wonder if she'll still be there?

Not this time, Hopman. We already went to Kalahari a few years ago, and I had several issues with the resort that I doubt I'd return anytime soon. Besides that, there have now been 2 major violent outbreaks at Kalahari in the past few months. I'm taking children with me, and if they cannot guarantee our safety after this latest 200-person brawl in the parking lot, then I'll probably not going to return for that reason alone. I'll be sticking with Splash Lagoon in Erie, PA and Castaway Bay (Sandusky) for the time being.

Jason, from what I'm lead to believe, Lexi Robinson is still the Marketing Director for Maui Sands (she was not let go...yet), as well as the company's parent, Mueller Electric Company, in Cleveland. Scott Emerson owns both of the businesses, and funded Maui Sands himself, with no bank loans. Only time will tell how this works out.

My apologies Midwave. Being from out here in NH, I don't get much of the local and reigional news from Ohio.

And to Jeff, I know how you feel, I got laid off on Monday (Dec. 1st). The good news, is that once things start picking up again (should be after the 1st of the year), I'll be back.

Yep I just got laid off, and from Maui Sands too! Was a lifeguard there, moved from Kalahari to Maui Sands when a bunch of the managers moved over. Was there from the very beginning.
I personally think they opened too early anyway, if they did not have the resort finished they should have stayed closed, finished the construction and opened in time for the Holiday season, instead of opening for the summer and not having the ability to finish the construction because of guests staying there.

From a report on NewsNet 5, the resort will reopen in May of 2009. The Cabana Village will be authentically Hawaiian, with restaurants, a bar along side a deep water surf simulator, a stage and seating area for nightly luaus and shows by Hawaiians performers, a spa and salon, a confections and coffee bar, retail space, large meetings rooms, a 75-game arcade and 50 cabanas with built-in amenities.

They really shouldn't have opened early. Now they've got many PO'd, laid-off workers, and probably lost a whole boatload of customers.

If i paid for a room, and did not get my CC credited after what just happened, I would just call my CC company and have the charge challenged and removed for either 'Improperly Billed" or "Services Not Rendered".

I feel sorry for anyone who was charged on their credit card account, and had this happen.

Judge has now issued an order allowing the Maui Sands receiver to hire a real estate firm to market the property. Not sure what the expectations are will respect to a market for the property. I guess at the right price the place could be successful. Tough time to be buying in that market though.
