I have friends with family in Myrtle beach and my cousins were just down there for a wedding. HRP has a huge problem, the locals don't dislike the place, it makes them angry. "$50 for one roller coaster, no local discounts, that place sucks!" Somehow they've managed to oversell while invoking the ire of the locals, which might just doom the place if they're not in it for the long haul. Doesn't help that there's still a sore spot for the old Pavilion and Family Kingdom is still serving up a honky tonk boardwalk atmosphere while being right at the beach.
Somehow they need to expand HRP place fast, convince the locals it doesn't suck, convince tourists to drive away from the beach, and stop charging full price for a 1/2 day park. If the place is to succeed I think it will need to be very unique, 'cause apparently the usual business models aren't going to workOn the plus side there may be a few good coasters up for sale in a year or so.*** This post was edited by robsvacation 8/25/2008 8:57:48 PM ***
