Good article! But....it says his blood sugar was 800...what's "normal"??

Don't quote me, but I think it should be around 150. A co-worker of mine has diabetes.

Also my mom had it for over 30 years. She died in 1990 at the age of 53. She was in and out of hospitals a lot. She couldn't control hers like some can. Many people don't realize it is a deadly disease if not taken seriously. It is great for the park to do this to raise awareness and funds for it.

a good fasting blood sugar is 100-120

anything over 200 is a problem.

800 is almost in diabetic shock

Thanks Will and gang at HW for all of your work for such a great organization. I have borderline diabetes and struggle to keep that number down around the magic 100 number. Some of the newer drugs that have come out in the last couple of years have been a real blessing.

Wow, this is amazing. when i was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes on June 15, 2000[my 9th birthday, exact day.] my sugar was 778.i was almost into a coma. I was fortunate enough to have not gone through that. I was misdiagnosed the night before with the Flu. I then missed 78 days of school in my seventh grade year in school due to the disease. I used to be in the hospital atleast 3 times a year. I used to take 6 shots a day until October when i was put on an Insulin Pump. I am now 17 and i am in the best shape of my life. i play volleyball for my high school and am hopefully going semi-pro in near future. Hearing about things that help get me in the best moods, it makes me feel that people actually care and the world isnt so selfish. A friend of mine reps the Novo Nordist insulin pen, is that a good drug??

yea, i was using one of them for the one weekend.

^^Really? I've sort of suspected myself of maybe being pre-diabetic (it's in my family for starters, but I'm too nervous to take the test), and I joked around with my friend about taking one of those pens (I don't even know how they work?!), but she said doing so would likely kill me!! So needless to say I didn't...she sells Novolog and Levemir....whatever that is?!

Levemir is a long-acting insulin and Novolog is a fast acting insulin and is very similar to Humalog, which is what i use with my insulin pump.
