I tugged the seat belt tighter, eyeing him sideways. A coaster connoisseur, I got it — but did this free bird understand that this was barely Day 1 of my wooden coaster tour across Pennsylvania? That the Keystone State was littered with the things (15 operating wooden coasters, to be exact — more than any other state, according to the Roller Coaster Database) and I needed time to adjust? My plan was to baby-step my way through 13 of them over the next four days, eventually working my way up to the intense new Ravine Flyer II, which opened two months ago at Waldameer Park in Erie, Pa.

Thanks to RatherGoodBear for spotting this in the forums. Well-written travel article, and pretty good video too. Glad the NYT still can get it right.

Thanks for the find RGB, that was a real treat to read. The only thing I REALLY regret about my move to Texas is that you don't realize how much western PA is really coaster central until you're not there anymore

You're welcome.

I can't take credit for any astute investigative skills. I was doing a Google search for something totally unrelated, and it took me to an article on an NYT page. At the bottom of the page was a link to this story, which had just been posted that day. Sometimes accidental discoveries are the best kind.

LOL! Great find RGB, it was humorous and entertaining, but I found that :

"around some crazy bends banking up to 90 degrees (sideways) followed by some other indescribable funny business (total chaos)"

to be a side splitter for me. "Indescribable funny business"?? Is THAT what I've been into all these years? LOL, great stuff.

That was a fantastic article, now I just have to find the time this summer to get out and ride Ravine Flyer II.
