Valleyfair maintenance crews noticed a fire in an electrical box of the Xtreme Swing ride around 9 a.m. Wednesday. Workers attempted to control the fire themselves but called the Shakopee Fire Department around 10:22 a.m. for assistance. Police and fire crews responded and the fire was extinguished around 10:30 a.m.

It seems as if the Screamin' Swings have been nothing but a problem... seems like an Intamin product, no?

I don't mind see them going. They are nothing great at all. They are kind of boring.

the smaller versions are kind of boring, but I rather enjoy Skyhawk. Then again, I liked my swingset as a kid.

I've been on it, as well as the twin in Sandusky, and I think they're great rides. Judging by the screams on them, a lot of people feel the same way.

Whatever this was, it didn't have anything to do with the previous problems involving the cylinder seals that kept failing in the tubes.

The video news story says the ride "will be closed for the rest of the season", but the printed article next to it says "the ride is being tested and it will likely reopen this weekend."

Seems that a large enough fire that the park couldn't put out wouldn't allow for it to be open this season...

IMO it is one of the best flats in the park. I wish the cycle was longer though. It ends just as it starts getting good.

The crews discover the fire aroun 9 a.m. and don't call the F.D. until an hour and 20 minutes later? There is something wrong with that in a couple of ways.

The article says the fire was in a telephone box "near" the ride. It also says the ride will reopen this weekend. I'm confused. LOL! Anyone have pics?

It's possible that the telephone box was inside the control panel/room, given that the article says it's near the ride, not inside the tower. Screamin' Swings have telephone hookups inside the control console that allow parks to send ride data to S&S. Then again, it could've just been a standard park phone.

They called the fire department at 10:22 and the fire was out by 10:30.

That's incredibly fast!

Skyhawk seemed to have little/no issues this year.

When I was a Cedar point this year their was only one side working.

Hang on, the fire was burning for over an hour before they called the fire brigade, then the fire was out eight minutes later?!

There's so many inconsistencies in this story I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a stand in the food court at MoA that caught fire.

^ Yeah really. Who reported this story, Ted Baxter?
