Cedar Fair releases 2005 attendance, up 1% overall

Cedar Fair, L.P. today announced that combined attendance in 2005 at its twelve parks totaled 12.7 million guests, up 1% from the Partnership’s total attendance of 12.6 million in 2004. Knott's Berry Farm was up 1%, Dorney Park up 9%, Michigan's Adventure up 18%. Cedar Point was down 3%, Geauga Lake was flat, Valleyfair and Worlds of Fun, attendance was down 5% and 10%, respectively. Overall per capita spending was up 3%.

It is good to see Dorney performing well the past few seasons. It has been a long time in coming but they certainly have made the right decisions there. MiA is also building a strong platform for the future.

I suspect that Dorney's success is the kind of thing they'd like to replicate with Geauga Lake. Dorney has significant competition as well, and they've done a nice job of building up that park. Knott's and CP were disappointing I'm sure, but they're still at the low end of the range they've been in for years. Hopefully it's just a normal cycle.

A lot of Dorney's growth this year may have come from Wildwater Kingdom, with all those 90 plus degree days we had in PA this summer.

RatherGoodBear - I'm pretty sure some of Dorney's attendance spike this year was also attributed to Hydra - The Revenge too.
