Kennywood Entertainment said in a press release that its new value-based pricing plans, expanded marketing efforts and favorable weather have contributed to increased attendance and sales at its four amusement parks - Kennywood, Sandcastle Waterpark and Idlewild & SoakZone in Pennsylvania and Lake Compounce in Connecticut.

I'm sure the waterpark they added this year helped too.

Awesome to hear. Now, who was saying Geauga's pricing structure was going to hurt them this year?

Tekno--the only water element that Kennywood Entertainment has added was a Lazy River to LC. There is no new waterpark.

That is surprising, I figured the one option only pricing would hurt the income a little, maybe for 2 or 3 years at most.

But I guess it caught on right away.

Phantom, I know. I was being rude and sarcastic in refrence to something else .

We did put that sprinkler up by the Merry Go Round for when it gets really hot. I guess new water attractions do pay off after all.

Upon further scrutiny, the Aug. 9 press release only indicated that the attendance was up for all four Kennywood Entertainment parks. Not Kennywood exclusively.
I know Kennywood doesn't release its attendance figures, but here is a recent report from the Wall Street Journal.

"After attendance dropped 4% last year over 2004 amid competition from local water parks, according to Kennywood, the park hopes for a comeback with the SwingShot. ..."

Down 4 percent? With Phantom Fright Nights growing every year, by the park's accounts, was there a dramatic drop between Aug. 9 (traditionally Aug. is a strong month) and PFN?
More likely, the "increase" stated in the Aug. 9 news release only meant Idlewild and Sandcastle, as quoted ("record-setting pace")?

So the new one-price policy at KW apparently did not boost attendance there. However, 4 percent drop might not be bad. I'm wondering, how does the drop compare with the rest of the industry, or with recent years?
