Geauga Lake ready to open just three weeks after purchase closed

Tom is a good guy. With him in charge of maintenance at G.L. I expect good things. But hey, things cetainly couldn't get any worse. I suspect he will have the place running well.

This worst part about opening day is going to be the weather.

The park is calling for thunderstorms today and Opening Day. Sun. it's calling for rain all day also.

This week Aurora, OH has had 30 degree weather and snow, and 73 degree weather and blazing sun...now the thunderstorms. Gotta love Ohio

We had snow on Monday and 80 degrees yesterday. They are claiming rain in the morning with scattered thundershowers in the afternoon. Weather like that has never stopped me from going to CP. In fact, it generally insures crowds will be lower.

I will be there tomorrow.

Is Tom Jones the new Maintenance Director or was he always there?

I'm curious to know what they're doin with RWB thats keeping it from opening on time. Did they finish retracking the other part of the ride or are they just behind on regular maintainance?

Anyway, its great to see that every ride will be open. I can't wait to see what CF will do with this park, especially in 2005. I'm not gonna be used to seeing clean midways and rides run at full capacity.

I went on Wednesday to get my Season Pass and drove by RWB - it had no track on the initial drop at all and maintenace was all over the ride. The retracking still going on at this time.

Yeah according to an ATL it won't be open til at least Memorial Day. I'll be at the park. Good to hear they aren't procrastinating on the ride.

The project on Wolf Kabobs was started before the acquisition. I'm sure if it were up to Cedar Fair, it would've been done long before the park opened.

I don't like the fact that the "Bobs" wont be opening right away, but at least all rides will be operational because last year when I went there last year the X-Flight was not operational, and the walkways/midway was a mess. I love the park, its just it wasn't the cleanest park. Cedar Fair i think will do a good job of that. One question if anyone knows, according to the Geauga Lake map posted on the site it looks like there is a barrier blocking the other side off, is it really barracaded off? Otherwise, I can't wait!

Of course CF has never had issues with off season projects, Jeff, they can do no wrong.

Tom Jones worked for GLP back in the day. I forget now why he left the park, but he ended up with Cedar Point before his return this season to Aurora.

i see that they did however get rid of the animals...at least for now anyhow......

2004: Cedar Fair L.P, owner of Cedar Point (located in Sandusky, Ohio), announces its purchase of the Six Flags Worlds of Adventure property. The park changes its name back to the familiar Geauga Lake and begins the process of re-introducing a family amusement park back to the community. Though the animal park is shut down and all animals are transported to other Six Flags parks, Geauga Lake continues its tradition of great family fun, rides and attractions!

It was really rather lame on opening day. Good weather in the afternoon and light crowd, but X-Flight only had one car running (typical), Superman (now "Steel Venom") was closed for maintenance, as was the Raging Wolf Bobs and Mr.Hyde's Nasty Fall. Everything else was open with multiple cars running, but otherwise it didn't feel much different than usual, so far.
