Six Flags Elitch Gardens announces Half Pipe

SFEG...building something I would actually want to ride....does not compute....does not compute....the end of the world must be near.

Congrat's, guys. You've been waiting a while for something like this.

This is not a slam against Six Flags but I don't see the big appeal with the ride. Maybe I just don't get it.

In reguards to a major attraction, these are very cheap to build.

Question- What makes this thing go? LIMs? Is it hoisted to one end and dropped? Or is it obvious and I'm missing it?

^It´s powered by LIMs (unlike the ill-fated Vekoma Hammerhead Stall).

Well, everybody who rode Sarkänniemis "Half Pipe" is full of praise about the experience. The only problem could be its small capacity.

All I know is I would throw up.

Cool. It kind of looks like riding an impulse but on top of the track and spinning as well. I'm looking foward to riding it when I'm out that way this summer.

Seems like it would feel slightly similar to a Huss Giant Frisbee on rails, unless it spins fast (then you wouldn't catch me on it).

As a big fan of impulses, I think this ride looks like a lot of fun! I’m still having trouble understanding where this thing will be built, though...Kind of behind Boomerang?

It will be displacing Tilt and I believe the Arcade that used to be the bumper cars. Tilt will move in the old western roundup spot.

FYI, the spinning is not controlled but rather governed by the weight distribution in each car.

I think this is a great addition and park guests will love it [unlike some spoiled enthusiasts].

Other than the plane set up and what not, what is the difference between this and the hammerhead stall by vekoma?

Some of the differences I recognized...

Half-Pipes cars appear to ride on a single "skateboard/snowboard" that "flexes" instead of two distinct cars. Also the seating is arranged in an outward facing position instead of rows of seats. Finally, your legs dangle, albeit slightly in this version.

I was looking at the pics on roller coaster database and was wondering if this ride will have a maximum height limit as it looks like the taller you are, the closer your feet are to the platform...unless something moves up or down during loading that could hurt.

Oh, and I am not complaining about the addition in any way, shape or form.

Did anyone else notice that she said that you can ride with 16 of your friends. The ride only has 8 seats on 2 cars. That makes 16 seats total. I wonder if SFEG is a worried as i am about the capacity and is allowing 2 people per seat. (I know it's just marketing.)

Back on topic though, I'd hate to be the one to start a is this a coaster debate, but when I look at the finished one in Finland, it looks like a flat ride. I am also very concerned about the capacity on a ride like this. Even a boomerang seats 28 people per ride. It does look like it could be a fun little addition. Too bad I don't have any plans to ever go to Denver.

Anyways...it is nice to see them get rid of Turbobungy and use that space for something useful.

Sorry Rubberducky, but I believe they moved Turbobungy over near the Flying Thing. Don't complain, those people who are dumb enough to pay 7 dollars to jump on a trampoline for 5 minutes help pay our wages.
