Omaha in line for new amusement park

Jeff - I am the only one in my family who has never been to Hawaii.  My sister and her family go every year.  Everyone I know loves it and I'm sure if I went I'd love it, too.  I'm sure I'll eventually get there someday [the CA lottery is $180 million!] but so far it has not interested me. 

Wasn't Disneyland built in just one year? 

And why is everyone so upset that Jeremy doesn't want to go to Nebraska?  Sorry, just find that funny

I think a new park in Omaha would be nice it would realy give Valleyfair some more competition.

I live in a cornfield farm boy born and bred and you would be surprised what kind of stuff you can do for ebtertainment.  As for a small town Muskegon, MI has a rather small population and they have Michigan's adventure.

first off, "small" towns like Muskegon & Valdosta have parks that cater to those people in larger cities nearby. Magic Mountain is technically in Valencia, California (small population), but it is very close (about 10minutes north) to Los Angeles (huge population).

secondly, like 2Hostyl, I doubt I will find myself at one of these places. Its not that I will avoid them at all costs, but I certainly wont go "out of my way" to get there. Not a place that I would "choose" to visit. Should I find myself in Omaha for some reason, I will without a doubt check out the local entertainment.

3rdly, dont knock a city if you havent been there. I still find people that think Phoenix is an old-west Ghost Town where people ride horses down the dirt roads. In actuality Phoenix is the 7th largest city in the US and the Phoenix Metro Area ranks #14. In comparision, Omaha Metro area is #61 and Lincoln Metro area is #143. For all you Ohio folk, Cleveland Metro area is #15 , Cincinatti Metro #23. This was from 1999 census.

This News is an Introduction to WOF to soem new competion. The Midwest is not officaly in the great coaster war. Cedar Fair may these words of the new Omaha park bring us a big coaster for 2003 to WOF.

Yeah, I definetly think this is more of a direct competition to Worlds of Fun and Adventureland, then direct competition to Valleyfair.  Most of Valleyfair's visitors come from SD, ND, WI, MN, and IA.

I agree this park will compete more with WOF and Adventureland.

As a kid in Omaha it was one of those two parks that we chose to go to every year. Valleyfair was to far away for a small trip. where as WOF and Adventureland could easily be done in one day including the driving to and from. The only place where valleyfair might be hurt is in Southern South Dakota, or Northern Iowa where both of the parks will be about equal distance from them. For Instance Souix Falls will have a better choice of parks to go to.

Another park that may lose a little bit of buisness would be SFEG from small Nebraska cities like Grand Island, Kearney, and North Platte.

He he when the park opens, it'll probably be a short time before Six Flags buys the park, name it Six Flags Over Omaha and neglect it of having new rides for 2 or 3 years.

I doubt Six Flags would ever buy this small of a park. But I could be wrong.

Speaking of boring, I'm considering moving out of LA, back to the Midwest, it's just too expensive to live in California.

I think the message about where Omaha is was just being sarcastic, in a mocking kind of tone. It's like saying, "Omaha?! What the hell is there?"

Actually, it's more like 40 minutes. It's almost 30 mins from Burbank, which is north of LA. For the majority of LA people, it's upwards of an hour.

Disneyland was built in a year from the "official" groundbreaking ceremony until the official opening ceremony.  Planning, land acquisition, design, financing, and permitting had begun years before.  Some construction was also done prior to the "official' groundbreaking.

One year is not an unreasonable time for the actual construction of an amusement park.  However, the actual construction is the final step of a longer process.  It is possible that these folk may have something open in a year, but it is unlikely to be a full blown amusement park.

One of my roomates when I lived in Kokomo was from North Platte. He said Kokomo wasnt much different from home....

I'm from omaha and first thing is if they build this park it better be damn good.  I'm a big rollercoaster and theme park fan and when someone first told me about a park being built here I thougt they were kiddin' beacuse I have always complained about getting a park here.  This is a great idea because it has been getting quite boring around here.  If they build an inverted i would like a B&M instead of a vekoma but if they did build a vekoma I wouldn't have  a problem with it beacuase it is alot better than what we do have here which is nothing.  As far as the site for the park, I beleive it is a great place for it.  There is plenty of room for it to expand. some of the park might go into Carter Lake Iowa which is basicly part of Omaha.  I like the area for it as long they keep it up around there.  Also a few years ago there was talk about getting a Six Flags around the Mahoney State park area between Omaha and Lincoln but that never went through.

It has an amazing 23 million visitors a year, which is more than KC. It has the Nation's #1 Family Attraction (2001 Family America Mag) Which is the World famous Henry Dorly Zoo. The College World Series brings in 120 million $ each year and is broadcasted on 876 television stations world wide, It has 5 fortune five hundred co. Omaha is said to be the Telemarketing Capitol and Credit Card Capitol of the workd with 3 billion calls going through Omaha daily, and over 7 million credit card autorizations going through First National Bank, headquartered in Omaha which is also the tallest building between Chicago and Denver at 50 stories(In Downtown Omaha). Omaha has the world's largest insurence company Mutual of Omaha, it also has a few other well known wall street names Con Agra, world largest food provider, Bershire Hathaway (Warren Buffet's Company the 2nd richest man in America also calls Omaha home) Yes the city is surrounded by corn, so is KC... KC has 1,400,000 in its metro area and isproud to call Omaha her sister city. I have been to Omaha 3 times in my life, all I remember is the bad traffic and horrible drivers, but i wont hold that against them. The Nation's 4th largest shopping mall, a convention center arena that would rival the TWA center are being built in Omaha with in the next two years. I don't see how people can't see this park being sussessful. It will be.
