While giving his keynote speech at the ACE banquet, Mark Shapiro let it slip that Magic Mountain would be getting a new wooden GCI coaster next year. He said it would be themed to the movie "Terminator Salvation."

Ugh. Another Terminator movie? Hopefully they can revive this dying franchise, ala Batman Begins.

Anyway, isn't Great America (CA) scheduled to get a GCI Renegade clone in 09 also?

The possible CGA GCI is not a clone.

GCI is really doing a great job of keeping busy.

Hmmmm...I wonder where they'd put it? Psyclone's spot? I'd prefer a terrain coaster of course.

Hmmm... An American classic wood twister roller coaster themed after an unstoppable cyborg assassin who has been sent back from the year 2029 by a race of artificially intelligent computer-controlled machines bent on the extermination of the human race.

Bingo.

If Paramount taught us anything, it's probably not a good idea to theme coasters to crappy movies nobody will like.

That being said maybe they can keep it generic enough that 3 months after everyone's forgotten about the movie they can remove whatever themeing gets put up and just call it "Terminator" which in and of itself isn't too bad a name.

I have some hope for this latest edition of Terminator. I'm a big fan of Christian Bale. Everything that I've seen that he's done I really liked.

The new Terminator movie will be set in the future after Judgement Day. That alone, is an improvement.

Wow. GCII is going to be busy next year.

Remember in Terminator 2 when they raced on the motorcycles with the truck in that concrete river bed.... and SFMM has one of those beds, but I don't know what they are really called

Ah... something our great-grandchildren will enjoy over and over again!

...Wait, I thought SFMM was closing.

Concrete river channel?

Yup. That sequence was shot in the Los Angeles River basin. Also used for Grease and a host of other movies. It's very cheap to shoot on location there since it's practically in the studios' back yards.

That is interesting, two new wooden coasters in California in the same year. No California theme park has attempted wood since 1999!

And neither will be a clone?

Score!

^^The conrete river channel sequence in Terminator was filmed near Northridge, CA. I witnessed it. It's not the same location as used in Grease.

Yah, the one in T2 looked smaller. Now I'm pretty sure that the one in Repo Man was the same location as Grease.

Nice quote Moosh!

So Moosh, terrain??? *** Edited 6/24/2008 9:55:39 PM UTC by janfrederick***

The news that Carlin died saddened me...I felt a tribute of some kind was in order.

As for the 09 woodie we can only hope. With the removal of the tilt-o-whirl there is a nice U-shaped hilly open space for it along the hillside extending from Goldrusher's helix, under Superman, and all the way around between Bucanner and the theatre.

But it's SFMM...I suspect it'll end up on some flat plot of land somewhere, lol.

Wow, Moosh. I double-checked, and you're right. It was filmed in Northridge. My bad.

You knew another Terminator movie was set up after the ending of T3. Was just a matter of time.

Terminator: Very good

T2: Kickass

T3: Watchable but nothing special except for a couple great action scenes.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
