I moved over to Vista a month ago and I like it alot, but Jeff is pretty much right. Even though it is stable there is no need to go out and upgrade your XP machine to Vista right away. Vista is essentially XP with some "pretty" effects. If you get a new computer with Vista then go on ahead because you don't have much of a choice.
I'm a nerd and work for a company where I'm the resident nerd. Because of that I try to run the latest and greatest of stuff all the while knowing the old school stuff.
What am I getting out of Vista? The virtual folders are a plus. I can place documents where ever I want and the Documents folder will find it, same goes with pictures, coaster por-- I mean movies, etc. Of course the Aero interface gives me the illusion that Windows is actually running fast. Home Premium (which is what I'm running at home) comes with some kick butt games like Chess and Mahjong. And so far I can run my old stuff like No Limits, RCT2, AoE2, and my console emulation stuff. I'm not much of a gamer, so I'm not sure what higher end games will work.
Hopefully john13601 was able to fix his problem.
