Wow, from what I have heard, it is easier for kids to learn new things, the earlier the better. IE foreign language class now in elementary school.

Damn, kid. You've got some moves.

He hit over 200 steps in a row!! I'm lucky to put together 20-25 with a miss. The kid is amazing!

Yeah those slow moving incredibly bright arrows can be tricky.

It's always the little Asian kids who kick your ass at the mall too. Talk about stereotypes!

I was at Coaster Con last week, and I think the perticular park I was at was Universal Islands of Adventure. Anyway, which ever park in Florida I was at had a ride that exited into an arcade and there was a guy playing DDR. Up until now, I've never seen anyone play this other than that episode of Malcom in the Middle where Hal was having a midlife crisis or something. Anyway, this guy was on the expert difficulty, and I have never seen anyone move their feet so fast in my life. I watched in astonishment for about 5 minutes, and when he finished, he had ended with about a 450 combo. I wish I had my camera at hand and set to video.

Not to say this kid isn't amazing though. The guy I saw had to be in his mid twenties if not 30.

I love how everybody who doesn't really know about DDR is most amazed by the combo.

I'll note that next time I'm trying to impress somebody.

Yeah - the fact that the kid is 5 is cool. The combo is not. Self-respecting DDR players NEVER miss a step. I've seen people curse themselves for getting all perfects and 10 greats.

I am obviously one of these people. I'm not offended by the comment, but just curious about something. I supose I would be safe in assuming that you are quite knowlegeable about this game. What in your opinion would be considered an impressive score/stat for DDR. Also, if the "combo" isn't really impressive, what does it represent and how does the scoring work in the game.

Alhough I'm impressed with this kid being 5 years old, his performance isn't even a glimmer in the eye of of the guy I witnessed playing at IOA.

Astounding scores to me would be something like these(or at least stuff I would be like, OMG OMG OMG if I actually saw it):

DDR:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnKAj5L4t7E&search=bluemystic

(in the second video, there are no steps because he memorized them. He's playing it on "stealth," or invisible mode)

ITG(hacked):

Now I would be impressed in the arcade by anyone getting less than 10 greats on an 8 footer level song or above, but It's nothing I couldn't do. Greats are a part of your combo, but nobody wants them. The ultimate goal of DDR is all perfects on a song. Perfection, if you will.

On In The Groove, the goal is to get all fantastics. The window to hit the steps in is much tighter, and the steps are much harder, so A score in the 99th percentile is generally considered really good. 100s have been done on quite a few expert level songs, but on some songs a 100 almost seems unattainable at this point.

That's awesome! Now parents know what to do with hyper 5-year olds. That kid can rock!

At Wonderpark last year my friend's 4-year old really got into it, and didn't do too bad for his first time. Now if only she would let me talk her into getting him the game.

Jeff, it's always ANY teenager that kicks your ass at the malls, parks, etc. Well, anybody can kick my ass anyway, even that 5-year old!

What is impressive?

Well, I know from hanging around with "professionals" that in general, no one will even say anything to you or be the slightest bit impressed unless you get an AAA (all perfects).

On the other hand, I once attracted an applauding crowd of about 40 people at Cedar Point by playing a series of 8-foot songs, with a performance that would have been considered poor by the "pros."

A full combo on any song is kind of like a walk in baseball - it's good, but nothing to get excited about.
