Hello,

I have read that in Cedar Point was a ride named "Zugspitz". It was a himalaya type ride. Have anyone some photos and informations of this ride?
Many thanks!

No pics here, but I do remember riding it when I was a little tyke, back around 1966-67. My memories are pretty vague, but from what I remember, it was located near the Space Spiral close to the beach.

I remember that! Wow, blast from the past...
I was just off the Midway not far from the Bayren Curves (sp?) which was accros from the old Giant Slide. It was far from the Schwibatchen. *** Edited 11/14/2005 2:34:11 PM UTC by FLYINGSCOOTER***

Hmm... The Zugspitz(e) is a mountain in Germany and the word also translates to mean the front/head of a train... but I don't seem to be able to locate any pictures or any information of the ride other than other topics on here or on Pointbuzz where people say things like "Yea! I remember that ride!"

Also it seems that Zugspitz was one of two Himalaya type rides operating at the park at the same time for at least some period in CP history. The other was a "Super Himalaya."

Pics or concrete info... coming up blank.

I have a park map from Elitch Gardens from the late 70s or early 80s that had a ride called Zugspitze. I was later renamed the Holland Express, then later the Express, when the park moved. It was an awesome ride, so much better than the Thunderbolt the park has now.

Well anyway, if that ride was similar to the Cedar Point version, they were made by Mack.

Sounds like something Anton would have given one of his weird roller coaster concepts that never quite made it to production. Or German profanity.

The band I'm in has started playing different tunes.

The "Zugspitz" was at Indiana Beach and is now the 'Music Express". It was named Zugspitz back in the 70's.

IBDave might have one. BTW, just do a search on google or go to Flatrides.com and look for a ride called Music Express or Rock n Roll. I can barely remember it when it was Zugspitz as I was really young. *** Edited 6/11/2006 1:20:00 AM UTC by stoogemanmoe***

I remember it, it was a "Himalaya" Type ride. It was taken down in the 1970s

From what I can remember, the ride had paintings of Alpine scenery on the back wall of the ride. I can't remember for sure whether the cars ran along a track or were suspended.

They covered the artwork up and put in chase strips if I remember correctly with egg strobes. The ride has always been on a track, where the Flying Bobs is suspended.

Sorry, Stoogeman, no pics tho I searched.

The old Zug at IB was replaced sometime in the late 70s or early 80s with the Music Express which in sense is a Himalaya ride. The Zug vehicles were heavy vehicles being made of wood, whereas the Express ones are fiberglass.

The ride runs on an undulating metal track similar to that of Tilt-a-Whirls. *** Edited 6/13/2006 2:41:02 AM UTC by IB*Dave***

I'll look at my souviner maps and see if there is any thing on there. Doubtful that I'll get any information other than location though. Maybe a small graphic.

Currently my oldest souvenir map is 1975 and it is not there. The Matterhorn is shown by the current location of disaster transport and bayrn curve is shown next to the imax.
