CF Cleans house at GL

As of yesterday CF has started to clean house at GL. In some departments almost every employee was let go. It’s nice to know they blatantly lied in their conference call regarding WoA employees.

Good Luck to those that were let go, I hope things work out for you in the future!! I know a lot of you will be missed!

I'm sure I'll get flammed for this but....

Considering how some of the employees, especially ride-ops, did their job on my last visit I say, "Good riddence!" Many of them acted like they were bored and would rather be anywhere else. Well...they got their wish!

There is a huge difference between the seasonal and full time staff. I won't flame you, but this house cleaning had nothing to do with the seasonal staff. A lot of good employees that spent a lot of time and care into the park were let go.

But Mamoosh's point is very valid.

It is unfortunate that many people whose livelihood depended upong their employment there have now lost their jobs.

However, the poor delivery of service represented by the seasonal staff was simply a reflection of terrible management and direction of the park's full time staff.

I say clean house CF. You can't make an omelet....

The performance of the ride ops, and the park in general, was a reflection of management. For whatever reason, they failed, so why would CF want them there running their "new" property? Sad to see people lose their jobs, but since there are so many people looking for them, they might as well have the best working for them.

I don't recall in the conference call where Kinzel said everyone at Geauga Lake would keep their jobs.

I know for a fact that employees were told that they would have to reinterview for their positions and decisions would be made as to who stayed and who would be let go.

It should come as no surprise to people outside the park that some people were going to be let go. The complaints that have been raised time and again proved that there were issues at the park that would need to be addressed and it wasn't only a "corporate" issue.

FYI...There are quite a number of people at Knott's, Dorney, World's of Fun and Michigan's Adventure who were with the respective parks BEFORE CF bought them and remain there today.

It's never a nice thing when someone loses their job, but if the performance wasn't there, then neither should the employment...

Anyone who isn't willing to have their wage/salary and job security directly tied to their own performance doesn't belong in a job. Period.

Actually, it doesn't surprise me at all either. Now lets see what happens under the new management. I feel for anyone who lost their job from this, but if you do bad work or don't take your position seriously, something has to give. your only as strong as your weakest link abd their were plenty of weak links at the park over the years.

Now when they lie about not changing the Dippers trains or altering them with those God awful "Volvo style" seat backs and ratcheting lapbars like they did to Blue Streak, I'll be a little more upset. but they haven't done that in Michigan, California, and Minnesota yet so I'll cross my fingers that the Dipper's classic trains will stay for now.

Reinterviewing to keep your position after a buyout is very much a standard, and intelligent, process.

Yes, it's painful (I've been through quite a few of these in my career, including some very big "hell just froze over" ones, like when Computer Associates (the then-2nd largest software company in the world) bought Legent (then 4th)), but from the purchasing company's perspective, it's the smart thing to do.

I feel bad for any employees that are let go in the process, but it's an unfortunate fact.

Let's remember what the management of the park had to work with. A financially struggling company.

There were plenty of people who should have been axed years ago. I just hope it was the right people.

I hope that cow at guest services has gone, I so wanted to leave her stranded on X-Flight for 20 minutes and see how she liked it. Sorry bout that, but everyone's been bashing the park for years, so I thought I'd have my say because we won't be able to do it for much longer.

I had one of the most flabbergasting experiences of my life at that park a few years back.

Eric Gieszl (URC Webmaster) and I were visiting and had a near euphoric run of rides on Texas Twister (top spin... I think that's the name) where the ride ops were incredible.

Well, later in the day I went to GR to submit a positive comment. I feel as strongly about relaying outstanding positive experiences as much as negative ones.

Well when I asked to leave a compliment or fill out a comment card I was met with the following reaction: (and I quote)

"So what was wrong? Nothing? You want to leave a compliment? Well you can leave a complaint here, we log complaints. But we don't have comment cards to leave compliments. It simply has never come up."

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

There goes that "chain inconsistancy" again. I had no problem whatsoever leaving a compliment at the guest relations office @ SFNO. That's jacked up that they said it "has (sic) never come up". Sorry!

The best employees from SFWoA are the trainers and staff of the former Sea World of Ohio that remained when the park was taken over in 2001. I feel sorry for the 'Ride Side' or other upper management from the non-animal side, but the trainers have degrees and specialty experience.

The question is now: with NOTHING coming in 2004 but new management, why are YOU going back? Prices are going up, discounts probably will be gone, the park will be only 1/2 of what it was for the past 3 years, over 75% of the shows are being cancelled, and all 3000 animals are leaving...am I the only one who will really miss these other events?

I understand that CF will operate this park better, but they are also abandoning the unique aspect of the park. The Cleveland Zoo doesn't have whales or dolphins, and I don't live near it enough to warrant regular visits...plus the hours are limited. People like myself work 6 days a week in the Spring/Summer, and 4 1/2 hours of driving to and from the Cleveland zoo is NOT an option.

My question is: What will be YOUR final straw that will make you not visit GL as you did during the SF days, anymore? *** Edited 4/2/2004 5:36:40 PM UTC by midwave***

The amusement park and Sea World were run as separate entities for YEARS! They were only combined under a single admission for, what?, two or three years?
